1. Yosemite National Park is continuing to slowly increase recreational access to the park. On June 11th the park will open all the primary attractions to some extent and visitors will be able to enter Yosemite in multiple ways. Visitors will be able to enjoy 800 miles of park trails and popular destinations including Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove, Tuolumne Meadows, and Hetch Hetchy
2. Yosemite is internationally renowned for its climbing, so if you have any interest in getting on the ropes, this is the place to do it! If you haven't seen the movie Free Solo, make sure you watch it before you arrive!! There are both guided climbing options (hire a guide for a half-day or a full-day), climbing lessons and equipment rental.
3. This is a different website, NPS.gov. Explore the Yosemite pages under Plan your visit and you will find information on the seasonal closures and much more. The only real technical problem I've encountered with the Recreation.gov website was changing my old password, which I was finally able to do as I described in an earlier post
4. Half Dome is a challenging hike for experienced climbers, and to prevent crowding, Yosemite requires would-be climbers to apply for a permit to hike the rock; apply at recreation.gov. Permits aren.
5. If you're planning to drive to Yosemite this summer, remember that you'll need to make a reservation in advance. Accepted reservations include day-use passes (valid for seven days, available from Recreation.gov), lodging or camping bookings, and wilderness or Half Dome permits.
